The Liberal Agenda

I'm tired of both political parties and their dumbed-down political rhetoric that's meant to elicit emotional responses from the public.

I would like to see (but am not holding my breath for) some serious, reasoned debate about the issues of the day.

I consider myself a conservative on many issues because I think our country, as established, is a good and decent nation.  Yes, we have blemishes in our past, which we have corrected over the year.  Are we perfect?  No, but we’re the best there is.

Unfortunately, those who led the charge in correcting some of the problems in our country do not tend to be satisfied once the problems they sought to correct have been rectified.

Racism was once a terrible problem in our nation.  Though many racists of all races still exist, our nation as a whole has bent over backwards (sometimes too far) to eliminate institutionalized racism.  But the race-baiters persist because that is all they know.  They have to line their pockets somehow.

The problem is that leftists in our country don’t see our country as righteous and honorable.  They see every individual failing as a commentary on our society as a whole.  Many of them have never lived in parts of the world where the basic freedoms they enjoy are non-existent.  They take these freedoms for granted.

The problem comes when these leftists wish to change our society toward their utopian ideal.  Of course everyone’s vision of perfection is different and those who tend to line up on the left have a much different vision of what our country should be than those on the right, although there are many who fall all along the political spectrum.

Many conservatives, like me, recognize the problems of the past and are thankful that we have moved beyond many of the sins of our fathers, but we’re constantly told that we are just as bad as or worse than they were.  I reject this notion.

Many conservatives, like me, are sick and tired of being labeled as homophobic, racist, sexist, and generally bigoted because we don’t want to change the traditional definition of marriage.  I don’t care if you’re homosexual.  Homosexuality is not for me, but if that’s your bag, then let your freak flag fly, as far as I’m concerned.

However, if we’re going to be intellectually honest, it is those who wish to change what has been established law and custom in our country are the radicals.  I know the term “radical” has come be a pejorative term, but it simply means that you seek economic, political, or social changes of a sweeping or extreme nature.

It is not conservatives who are seeking these radical changes in our society.  By definition, conservatives are seeking to uphold long-held traditions and customs.  If you believe that you’re being discriminated against by those beliefs and customs, then you have every right to fight for change, but what I see is that many on the left are not satisfied once an injustice has been corrected.  Civil Unions are not enough for the gay agenda.  Their Union must be called “Marriage” or it’s somehow not valid.  Frankly I don’t care if you call your union “Bob”, but I see can understand those who are offended by people who are subverting religious values attempting to use a religious doctrine to sanctify their union.
